"IS MARRIAGE A BUSINESS?"

Dead silence in the bed room.
Both Suma and Vivek stood there like strangers. Suddenly breaking the silence, Suma took out her gold necklace with black beeds and a marriage badge ( considered to be sacred since it is tied by the bridegroom during marriage rituals) and her dimond ring given by him at the time of their wedding and placed it before him. This was quite unexpected and a shocking situation to him and he faced his wife with a perplexed look.

"Just because of these ornaments relationships do not survive. Our bondage is not as strong as one link of this chain. Our relationship is a very big lie. For you it was a matter of licence  to satisfy your lust. But, I don't think so! For me, it is an extension of my heart's love. I cannot remain here like a prisoner and work like a maid servant. From this moment I am free from this relationship of lie and slavery".

Saying this, Suma moved towards the door and stopped hearing Vivek speak.
"Why should we break up for the problems created by a third person?"
Hearing this, a faint smile crossed on her lips. She talked to herself.
" When I am moving out, this man is talking as if he has not done anything. Since five years I am living here like a third person. Where was this relationship all these years? He is the same person who demanded lakhs and lakhs of Rupees to please his parents and warned me that nothing remains between us. Now he is talking as if very innocent. Who knows about this man much better than me? Fear of losing family prestige is compelling him to talk like this.
But I don't care anymore. I am leaving him for ever"
Talking within herself in these lines, Suma told Vivek:
"See Vivek, I am not in a position to answer any of your questions. Before going I want to make my point very clear. Married life is not a child's play. It is not a business dealing. It is a bondage of love that brings two hearts and their families together on emotional grounds. It is not a logic. Life is like a balancing scale. If you want harmony in life the two balancing plates should be of equal weight. You should balance it with love; not with money! Otherwise this would be the outcome. You are solely responsible for this unfortunate
situation. You think through your mother's brain. How can you take a firm decision when you dont know what actually you need in life? Now, there is nothing left to advice or explain.
I am capable of living on my own earnings unlike you! I don't need anything that identifies me with your name. So I have returned these ornaments. These things have value only when there is love between us. But, when it has become a business dealing these symbols of relationship lose its meaning. You are free to marry any woman who can meet your demands. Ok I am going; good bye Mr.Vivek!!"

With these words Suma opens the door and goes out without even glancing at him.
Watching this courageous act of that lady the socalled social system of marriage began to think where it went wrong!!!

  1. Marriage is not a business but a bondage between the two souls but Alas! in this materialistic world, people are weighing this relationship even with same balance now a days. It's really a shameful and shocking situation in these days and emerged as the main cause for many separations .
